I’ve discovered my new favorite restaurant in town. Q’ero – http://qerorestaurant.com/
From the maduros, to the plantains, the tres leches and delicious meals in between, everything is incredibly flavorful and the atmosphere is both vibrant and quaint at the same time. I’ve been twice in one week, which is a pace that I can’t keep up, but once was with a friend from out of town and another for Mom’s birthday, so I figure it’s completely acceptable.
I’ve enjoyed two great bottles of wine on my visits there, though my preference was he Cabernet. I’ve come to realize that Malbecs have a bit too much of an acidic taste toward the end for me, although this one was incredibly smooth up front and has a 97pt rating. The Cabernet on Monday was Les Dix de Los Vascos, while the Malbec on Saturday was Black Tears from Bodega Tapiz. I’ve rediscovered my love of wine over the past several months, after a period of skipping it. Life is too short.
If you’re ever in San Diego, it’s well worth a visit, but note that you will have to call in advance for a table unless you want to sit at 5:30 or 9:30.
